A Richmond Hill birthday without hosting at home
Hosting a birthday at home in Richmond Hill means clearing the living room, planning games and cleaning up after a dozen excited kids. A party at Lazer Runner moves all of that to the arena at 2 Allaura Blvd, Unit 10 in Aurora. Your group gets a private party room, the staff run two private games in the arena, and the room is set up before your guests walk in. You bring the cake and the birthday child, and the rest of the plan is already in place.
The party lasts 1 hour 50 minutes from start to finish. Each private game runs about 20 minutes, which leaves plenty of time in the room for pizza, cake, presents and a few rounds on the arcade machines.
Oak Ridges families
Oak Ridges sits at the north end of Richmond Hill along Yonge Street, on the Aurora side of the city. For families in Oak Ridges, Jefferson and the streets around Bond Lake, the arena is just over the town line. The same two packages, the same party room and the same prices apply no matter which part of Richmond Hill your guests come from.
We always have families visiting from Oak Ridges and Jefferson, the parts of Richmond Hill closest to our Aurora arena.
Picking a party day: Friday counts as the weekend
Party pricing has two levels. Weekday parties cost less, and Friday, Saturday and Sunday parties use the weekend price. Here is how the opening hours line up with a birthday plan:
- Tuesday to Thursday, 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, at the weekday price.
- Friday, 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm, at the weekend price.
- Saturday, 10:30 am to 9:00 pm, at the weekend price, with morning and afternoon start times.
- Sunday, 10:30 am to 7:00 pm, at the weekend price.
Monday is kept for private groups and school trips, and the arena is also open on PA days. If the birthday falls on a PA day, call 647.500.8512 to ask which times are free.
Budgeting for a party of 12
If your guest list reaches a dozen kids, the math is simple. Each package covers 10 players, and the price stays the same whether 1 or 10 players join, so you only add the guests above 10. For 12 players the totals are:
- Special on a weekday: $290 plus 2 extra players at $26, or $342 + HST.
- Special on Friday or the weekend: $320 plus 2 extra players at $29, or $378 + HST.
- VIP on a weekday: $390 plus 2 extra players at $33, or $456 + HST.
- VIP on Friday or the weekend: $420 plus 2 extra players at $37, or $494 + HST.
The Special feeds the group with 12 pizza slices and 10 bottles of water. The VIP brings 24 slices, juice packs as well as water, cake plates, forks and napkins, and swaps the single-game gift card for a double-game one. For a hungry group of 12, the extra pizza on the VIP can tip the choice.
Game ideas for the birthday group
Staff choose from seven game modes and can change shots, lives, time limits and handicaps between rounds. For a birthday, a few modes tend to work well:
- Team Capture or Team Play splits the guests into two sides, and the birthday child can captain one team.
- Vampire Game and You’re IT keep the whole group moving and laughing.
- Eliminator and Individual Play suit older kids and teens who want a scoreboard to chase.
Mention your group’s ages when you book so the first game starts at the right level. Vests and phasers fit every size, which helps when cousins of different ages join the party.
Teen and tween birthdays
Laser tag is not only for younger kids. Teens from Richmond Hill and Oak Ridges can celebrate here too, and adults can play alongside them. A Friday or Saturday evening party gives an older group a night out in the fog and lights, with the party room as a home base between games.
Food, cake and the party room
All food brought into the arena must be nut-free, and you may bring any nut-free snacks or treats you like on top of the package pizza. The cake can wait in the refrigerator while the games run. Pack your own knife and lighter for the candles.
Before the party starts
A little planning keeps the day on schedule:
- Send the invitation card with the start time and the arena address in Aurora.
- Ask each family to sign the waiver before play.
- Plan to arrive 10 minutes before the start, and ask guests to be there on time, because the games begin together.
- Remember that players need to be 6 or older; younger brothers and sisters can come in free with an adult.
